Virgin Media Strengthens Environmental Performance with Enterprise Fleet Management Solution
SageQuest provides fuel reductions, safety enhancements and service advancements to U.K. provider of telephone, television and internet services.
BOSTON (Feb. 7, 2013) – Fleetmatics Group PLC (NYSE: FLTX) announced today its enterprise fleet management solution, SageQuest, was chosen by Virgin Media for its 2,600 vehicle fleet serving the U.K. and Ireland.

Many of the management reporting tools provided by SageQuest support Virgin Media’s goal of continuous improvement in environmental performance, according to Maurice Daw, Executive Director—Access, Virgin Media. The solution’s reports allow for reductions in fuel usage, enhancements in driver safety, and advancements in customer service.

SageQuest’s fuel saving features include monitoring of engine idling and a provision for alerts that helps drivers avoid traffic congestion. Daw indicated Virgin Media expects immediate impact from these, per a 2012 study by Argonne National Laboratory that reported one hour of idling is equivalent to 25 miles of driving by the typical fleet vehicle.
Safety improvements are encouraged by SageQuest’s real-time ability to monitor for speeding, fast cornering, hard braking and excessive acceleration. The solution also provides management alerts to prompt actions that discourage these behaviors, which are known to increase the likelihood of traffic accidents. “The safety of our field technicians is paramount,” said Daw. “This system alerts management to put appropriate protections in place.”
SageQuest combines Garmin vehicle navigation systems and Google maps capabilities to provide street views, helping drivers avoid being lost or not seeing delivery addresses. These tools ensure better customer service through tighter response times and give greater reliability to employers when scheduling fleet activities.
